E: Be aware, that chemicals which are eliminated by other measures e.g. from air by a scrubber-system also may enter the waste water stream. Industrial use of chemicals means release of chemicals into the environment not only via wastewater. Other pathways might be more relevant than emissions via wastewater (e.g. emissions to air or through widespread use of manufactured articles). Some chemicals may be recycled and reused internally, or they may not be released to the environment via other pathways. Therefore, as a further step, other possible release pathways to the environment in the production processes need to be investigated. This is currently outside the scope of the decision scheme, as the development of an interactive scheme within the HAZBREF project is focused on emissions via wastewater.
